You have certainly had a lot going on, Jo. How nice to have Debbie nearby now. The recognition of your family connection with Frontier Days had to be so rewarding. Attending Frontier Days was one of the highlights of an extended trip West in the late forties. Thanks for rounding out that memory. Good grief–what happened in those sixty some years since that summer.
My second knee replacement is going well after nearly 12 weeks. For some reason I did not know I would need to take antibiotics before getting my teeth cleaned. All of my research was concentrated on the surgery and rehab. As was explained to me, I now have two foreign objects in my body that are vulnerable. Teeth and gums can be conduits for infection that could attack those. It’s a small price to pay for walking without pain–not running any races yet but no longer need a cane in the normal course of my days.
Hope we will hear from those who are being or have been affected by the various extreme weather conditions that have brought so much destruction–floods–drought–wind–earthquakes–what more could one year see!

I meant to say that it is good to hear from you Jo. You sure have had a lot going on.
Princeton was hit hard by Irene, many trees down blocking streets, flooded basements and flooding. The town was isolated because the roads out were blocked by trees or flooding.I still don,t have power and some estimates are that we won’t get it until Sept. 4. The 4 inches of water I had in my basement drained someplace and I really don’t care where. I am happy that it went away. I am lucky to have family near by where I can power up things that need that like the iPad and cell phone. I can move in with her if I want. But right now don’t plan to.
I am listening to Annie Proulx’s newest book. Bird Cloud. It is a memoir of building a home in wyoming and. Much about the area and some of her childhood. I think she is my favorite author.
I published the two posts that were in limbo – we are good to go now.
I haven’t checked GGOBIT for several weeks, but so glad to see familiar voices “words”. Clive is doing radiation every
I have no idea how long it’s been since I posted and y’know what, ladies and Jerry? I’m not gonna go back and find out either. That’ll only make me feel MORE guilty that I already do. My most humble and abject apologies to you all.
Started off in June when my FL daughter Debbie moved lock, stock and sewing machine to Loveland. She stayed with me for a month (which was some 20 days or so longer than the rules allow) and then went to sister Suzanne’s who, if you recollect, lives here in Loveland and is the one who found my senior community complex.
So I now have both of my daughters living here. I love it.
Then in July, over the 4th, we celebrated son-in-law’s mother’s 90th birthday. She and I have the same birthday, her day came in 1921 while mine is 1930. How about that for a coincidence! That ‘bash’ lasted for three days!
Then I heard that my father’s mother, Margaret Rick Irwin, was being inducted into the Cheyenne Wild West Hall of Fame; she was World’s Champion Cowgirl three different years in the 190Xs. So I tried my darndest to get the tickets to that and succeeded but along the way, I ‘met’ Shirley Morris, who did a documentary on cowgirls (Oh You Cowgirl) which is on a DVD. Well Shirley msg’d me (we’re both on FaceBook) and wanted to interview me. She was in Cheyenne and since I no longer drive, it was going to be interesting, however, Debbie drives and hadn’t found a job yet so she too me to where Shirley was and the interview went well. Her documentary, Irwin – The Legacy, has to do with uncles CB and Floyd who started the Irwin Wild West Show which was the forerunner of Cheyenne Frontie Days. Grandfather William didn’t have much to do with the show, I don’t believe – I haven’t heard that he did, anyhow. But Grandmother Margaret was an active cowgirl in the show, as was her daughter, Gladys and son, Charles “Sharkey.”
That induction is Sept 9 and both Debbie and Suzanne are going.
Brother Nick had some chest pain and recently had a triple bypass done. That kept us all on tenterhooks for a while, but his recupe is coming along nicely. Thank you, God.
I guess that is about all the news and now I’m caught up.
I’m happy to hear that, although some of you are much too warm, Irene hasn’t done too much to you. Temps this summer have been unpleasant, I know – we’ve had some here. Paul and Suzanne and Debbie have hit some of the fun spots and events here in town, but with high 80/90s temps, I stayed home. I have AC and there wasn’t any outside.
Hockey season is just a tad over a month away and I’m ready. I thoroughly enjoyed the Little League World Series; the kids are phenominal.
That’s about all that’s been happening with me and mine. Hope all continues to go well with all of you.
Jo
I was wondering where you were as the storm was traced–glad you made it.

Irene did upset our plans a bit. The wedding was fine. But we left early and missed some of the fun. Had a good time with family and friends. our drive. Home was not fun but we made it.I have no power and water in the basement so I am at my daughters powering up stuff and having coffee.
Where does the time go. We went to Mid. TN for Don’s family reunion and we had a good time and all went well. Then we had children from MN and NC and here in CA visit. Now I am trying to catch up. My sil told me about a book at the family reunion and I got it but haven’t read it It sounds really good. It is Endless Chain by Em i l i e Richards. I spaced the letters in the first name so you could tell the i’s from the l’s. She said it was one in a series of three but our library didn’t have the other two or at least I couldn’t find them.
We have not had much hot weather this summer but today made up for it. 111 degrees for quite awhile today.
Good to hear from all of you that posted. Georgianna
Darlyne–you do like to live dangerously–hope all goes well! Air travel sounds chancy.

I am attending a wedding in Mass. Saturday, leaving tomorrow. It may be an interesting hurricane wedding. My oldest grandson is getting married. It isn’t to hit that area until Sunday so the wedding will be ok but getting home may be a problem. I will worry about that when the time comes.
I seem to be on facebook through my Yahoo acct, but haven’t figured out how it works exactly. I have a few “friends” and plan to do more with it, but have to make time for it, seems like between family, community, and church, the days slip into evening, and face book, and even the internet, doesn’t always get included.
Our two daughters who live away from here are coming on Thur, and 4 grandkids, which is always enjoyable. Our oldest in MO phoned this am and had seen the movie, “The Help”. I read the book in 09, and found it very interesting, but have forgotten names, ect. I hope to see the movie, the story is about racial problems in Mississippi in the 60′s. Not the violence, but the subtle prejudice, esp among women.
My sister can read books on her new i pad, but I guess I’ll plod along with paper for a while. jacky
Her last name is Torrey. I highly recommend books. On tape Jan. I listen to them on a walkman but am planning on getting an mp3 player as my library is getting more e books and less tapes. I just have to learn how to do it.
Jacky say “hi”to Clive from me also and hope he continues to have problem free radiation. I had no problem with it and didn’t realize it was making me tired until it was over and I had more energy.
Tell me Jo’s last name, please. I can’t find my book we put together with all of our
biographies and I don’t remember. My e-mail address is hutchinson_jan@yahoo.com
and I’d like to see if I can find Jo on Facebook. If she is still in the retirement community
she moved to, she may be as busy as I am. I now have a “write your life story” group
here as well as the one I have had for several years as a part of Newcomers Club.
Also organized a sing-along group and we get together twice a month. I am on the
welcoming committee for our new residents that move in. We have had nine newcomers
this past month!
I greeted Clive from you, Jan, he smiled and will be 80 this Dec. You maybe remember that he and Ardus were cousins. I like both those writers too. You remember Phylls Michalski? her sister, Patty has all the Debbie M books, I’ve borrowed several of them. She doesn’t read jodi though, but i have her book about the ausberger young man, just can’t seem to get through it, but intend to. So sorry about your eyes, reading is such a good pastime. Jacky
She is leading the good life in CO. She is on Facebook.
I admit I am guilty of not checking in often – I do read others comments though. We have had beautiful weather here in Idaho – not too hot and not as windy as it usually is. The evenings are perfect and my friend and I have taken to eating our evening meal on the patio. I feel we might as well take advantage of such lovely evenings – no doubt we will have snow and ice before too many weeks(you think I’m kidding about that, don’t you?)
One of the reasons I haven’t been on this blog – I just don’t read as much as I used to. I have been an avid reader all my life, but my eyes become very tired if I read for any length of time. Jodi Picoult and Debbie MacComber are both on my Facebook page and they are tempting me with remarks about their new books. Perhaps I should check for books on tape.
Jackie, please give Clive my wishes for good health and recovery from cancer. I have nice memories of him – he used to go along with us on dates the summer I was dating Ardus (sp). I always thought he was a nice “kid”; tell him that – I turned 80 in December and he may be about the same age – ha!
Well, keep this blog going and let me know if any of you hear from Jo.
Jan in Idaho
Glad to see familiiar names and words. Clive has been in radiation 25 miles from Oslo, M to F for 42 days for prostate cancer. its going well, no side effects so far, the Dr says the only one may be tiredness, and Clvie says he’s tired all the time anyway.
My sister and I had a family reunion in Mpls, there were 42 of us and had a very gotime. My brother didn’t come, but most of his family was there and we got to know them better, plus my sister and I have family from out of state, we were blessed with good weather, our middle daughter, Pam, arranged a kick ball game at the picnic, and our son and wife have a karioke machine which was a big hit after the Sat buffet in the hotel. We have a bunch of musical hams. I, however did not know hardly any of the 60′s to 90′s music. I asked at Best Buy for something from the 40′s or 40”s, the salesman, young, just smiled. We did have some Elvis tunes, and one of the songs on Jo’s quiz, I wonder, wonder who, from Who wrote the book of Love”? Also my sister and I sang Blue Berry Hill.
Other wise, I feel so sorry for you in the HEAT! It was over 90 here in the north for about a week. Offta
I’m rereading A Man Called Peter, by Katherine Marshall, and do so enjoy it. I found it in a used book store at my cousin’s in St Augustine. I wish we had more faith leaders like him, and her.
Hope this blog continues, its nice to hear from you all, jacky
I am happy that you posted. I almost gave up. We are having a hotter than normal summer but not like yours. We get a cooler day now and then. it rained today. I have a large plant saucer that works very well for a bird bath. It is on my patio and the birds and an occasional squirrel like it. I do hope your weather breaks. I am reading Tina Fay’s Bossy Pants. she is very funny and it is a easy read. I have only watched her be Sara P. And thought she was good.
Well, I will post “something” here, since it’s been over two weeks since anyone has posted.
Firstly, is everyone all right? I know the hot weather is sapping our strength. If you are having cool weather or rain, be very very thankful.
We are four days away from tying the 100 degree, consecutive days record. Who needs a record like that? My lawn is brown, the earth has cracks, the birds come to drink and bathe in a small receptacle under my front yard tree, that I put water in for them. So sad for me to see them with gaping beaks. I wish I had a “real” birdbath for them.
On top of all that, the power company warns of “possible” brown outs or blaack outs and we must conserve whatever electricity we can, as well as water. A small town to our southeast has “NO” water.
Electric bills skyrocket. Even with my thermostat on 80 it is practically unbearable. If I lower it, doesn’t do any good, won’t cool below 80 till about 9:00 at night. By then it’s time to go to bed, under the ceiling fans, and can cut the thermostat down to about 85 so AC won’t come on all night long.
Bout tired of my grousing? Hope someone has enough energy to post!
Best to all!
