Mayo. Rochester

So thankful, Clive’s bone scan showed no cancer spread. We saw the radiology Dr this am, I mentioned the new proton treatment, but Mayo does not have it yet, its in the works. Clive has a bunch of tests tomorrow, Wed and Thur, and then we meet with the radiologist again. It sounds hopeful. The proton sites are in CA, TX, FL and other places in the states and Germany has one.

So glad your surgery went well, Candace, good to hear from you all, and your outings sound like fun, Jan. I saw your sister and bro in law, Darlyne, stopped at your brother’s and they were just leaving. I hope to visit them when things slow down. i’m reading Things of the Past, an anthology of Malcolm Muggeridge put together by Ian A Hunter. I find the English man’s writings very uplifting. Jacky

knees

I think my second knee didn’t go as well as the first either but nothing bad and I went on a road trip in our camper three weeks after the surgery so it must not have been too bad. I am getting ready for a family reunion at Nags Head, NC. We did this a few years ago and it is a great time.

Knees

Darlyne, I’m two weeks and three days into my second new knee and doing well. I remind myself that you did this and it all worked out as it should. I’m having a little more trouble getting the pain management right than I remember with the last one but am getting it. Post op visit xrays the doctor said looked just as he hoped. He said my first recovery went exceptionally well and this one is more the norm. Today was the best one yet so it’s on track.

Downloaded a new book on Kindle about a little known WWII rescue–wish I could remember the title but will have to do it later when it’s within reach. It has Shangri La in the title.

Glad to hear from all of you about what you’re doing. We’ve had 100 to 105 temps here for several days and after 32 days finally a good rain. Terrible what is going on in Minot ND.

sunshine

I am glad that you got here Jan. Sounds as if you have a busy life. Mine is busy right now also. A niece and her daughter from Oregon visited, had lunch at my house but stayed with Jenny. We all drove to NY for dinner and the show, The Importance of Being Ernest. It was great but we did a lot of walking and got home way past my bedtime so I am tired today. I forced myself to swim the usual 35 minutes. I am not planning to do much the rest of the day. By the way, I have the Ernest book on the list that I have read but could remember nothing about it. Guess thats an advantage of a bad memory.

Sunshine

Posted by Jan in Idaho on June 23rd, 2011 3:00 am

For three days in a row, we have had sunshine in Idaho.  What strange weather we have had here.  Last night about 16 of us went down to the concert in the park by the river – what a treat to get out (without a jacket) and enjoy the music and weather.  Parents with strollers, dogs on leashes, about three young couples dancing swing dances, waving to people I knew – pure Americana.  The music was a great jazz group.  Our activity director told us we would be going down every Tuesday evening for the rest of the summer except for one that will be a hip-hop band.

I hope we will hear good news about Clive, Jacky.  It sounds as if he has good doctors.

I’ve had a busy week – my memoirs writing group Monday night,  conducted the sing-along yesterday morning, concert last night and tonight  attended the Old Time Fiddlers group that comes here once a month.  Will try to get a little shopping done tomorrow.  Haven’t heard from Jo for quite awhile.  I hope she is enjoying the place she is living and that her health is good.  Enough for now.

I’m Ba-a-ack (I think)

Thank you Darlyne and Jennie!  I’m barely awake so I won’t write anything right now, but appreciate the help.  See you later.

Mayo. Rochester

We can’t see a radiologist until the 28th of June. This is the first opening, but they will call us the results before that, when they have them. We heard that urology and orthopedics are the busiest at Mayo. I suspect diabetes and joint problems, when I see the size of many around here.

We will leave in the am. I’m glad we came, our GF dr wanted to wait and see, but this Dr said that with Clive’s kind of cancer, treatment is certain. I just pray the bone scan does not show cancer any where else. And there is a cancer clinic in GF now, which I hope will work for him. jacky

Mu ipad put Newark in where news was supposed to be. It has a mind of its own. I will have to check more carefully when I post from there.

Jan still hasn’t posted here I posted a letter she emailed me. The web master gave her a new password. I am waiting and hope she is OK.

I AM GLAD THAT THE NEWARK Is good for Clive, Jackie. Can he do the radiation locally?

Glad to hear you are back, Jan, i told Clive your message. We are now in Rochester, and tomorrow, Clive will have a bone scan to make sure there is no cancer spread from the prostate. The plan is to start a radiation process, and the Dr said it is “curative”. which lightened my heart!

Also, I had the wrong title on the Lynn Austin book, its, Though Waters Roar, from Psalm 46, one of my favorite psalms. In fact, i memorized it on our way home in 1997, in our motor home, when Grand Forks, our nearest large city, was overrun by the Red River. Oslo’s dike held as it did again this spring, and this is the first time we’ve been in town during the high water. Its always a worry, we have no way out but by boat.

Your book sounds interesting, Darlyne, I’ll look for it when we get home. We listened to a Sue Grafton mystery on our way here, T is for Tresspass, its a book both of us find interesting. Jacky

I second your review of Major Pettigrew!! It was wonderful! Covers a lot of timely topics; elders, children of elders, ethnicity.

Lovely, lovely read and not too long either.

Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand

Posted by Darlyne C on June 12th, 2011 12:45 pm

I am reading this delightful book. The Major has been widowed for six years, has a son who is trying to tell him what to do and he falls in love with a Pakistani widow shopkeeper. It is complicated because of their different stations in life and the problems because of it. It is an easy summer read and I recommend it. My daughter gave it to me on the kindle and I am enjoying it.

There is no way I could ever express how much this forum has meant to me. I have learned so much from so many of you. You opened my eyes and my heart to so much. I will be forever grateful for this forum. I have met so many wonderful people. I first became a part of GGOBIT in about 1993-94.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Georgianna

Another Book

Posted by Owl36 on June 6th, 2011 4:01 pm

I read a novel – finally things have slowed a bit or else I have been more dedicated. I was doing some errands last week when I heard Debbie Macomber on the radio promoting her new book. Something about it really peaked my curiosity. It is about three women (different ages) who took a cross country road trip. I thoroughlyenjoyed it. Very light reading but I enjoyed it. It is “A Turn in the Road.”

Take care all of you. Georgianna

Welcome BACK!

Glad you made it, Jan. I don’t know why but I have to sign in almost every time now–no matter–for some reason the password is one, unlike some for various places, comes to mind instantly. Wish I could say the same for a lot of other things I try to recall. :)

Spent way too much time watching C-Span 2 yesterday–it’s almost always like sitting in on a college course on some topic I never thought could be interesting then I can’t leave it. I understand the eye problem. Without my KIndle and the large font I couldn’t read very much. The floaters get in the way for newspaper type so I have to have time for those.

The damage to crops will be unbelievable from grower to end user.

From Jan

I did it. This from Jan Hutchinson (sp)

Hi Darlyne – I haven’t been on GGOBIT for quite awhile because I lost my password and tried to register again and it woudn’t let me. I have been reading GGOBIT though and keeping up with everyone. Luckily I had you in my e-mail “contacts”. I haven’t been reading very much for awhile because my eyes are giving me problems and I can only read two or three pages at a time.
What a nuisance! I don’t want to see this forum go by the wayside. Aside from the book news, I feel like we are part of a family and want to pass along best wishes to Clive for a good recovery (tell him I was Elaine Enge) and to thank Jacky for keeping me up to date on the flood up there- first week of June and not in the fields yet!!

Anyway, I hope to be allowed back in – please ask Julie to help me. Thanks.

I received an e-mail from Jan and tried to post it here but was unsuccessful. She had trouble getting on ggobit and Jenny helped her. She has been keeping up. I hope she can do it.

We are having cool weather again which is nice. I will be going for a walk and than a movie, Win.Win.
