Pillars

I did read that and loved it. I have a feeling that I started The Year of Wonders but didn’t finish it.

I have my own I-pad now and Jenny came over and set it up for me. I have a Kindle on it and am reading Stone Cutters–which she purchased and gave me the pass word so I can read books on her account. i think it is great. I might finish reading Moby Dick on it. I read about 15 chapters on line and then stopped for some reason but it will be easier to read on the I Pad. I love it. I also received among other things like elastic shoe laces, a wooden jig saw puzzle. I can’t stay away from it.

Meniere’s Disease, Part 2

Posted by Co Jo on January 31st, 2011 5:06 pm

Well, dang – I’ve got it, too, according to the symptoms. My grandfather, my mother were both VERY deaf, I’m getting there and all 3 of my sons wear at least one hearing aid.

Bummer.

My balance is awful, I have tinnitus in my right ear (and maybe in the left although the right is so loud, I’m not sure), and I wear two hearing aids.

Ye gods!

My g’daughter here in Loveland has that also and I guess I’m going to have to read up on it. I’ve not had any ‘dizzies’ since I discovered the Sudafed/Meclazine fix from one of the doctors I went to in the 70s. thankfully – I hate being dizzy. Had a spell once and it made me deafer, which I did NOT like.

I am still rereading Pillars of the Earth and hope to finish it sometime this year! And I am STILL liking it even though I’m wondering why nobody has yet to run a sword through Earl William. He DID lose his Earl-dom he’s still a bas—d. Alfred got his finally, and now Alienna (?) and Jack can get married. (Whew – that really worried me. [NOT])

Judith said she couldn’t get interested in the sequel, World without End (is that the title?) I hope it isn’t that bad. ;(

A bit of snow and cold today – 10 deg? good grief!

Dr appt tomorrow – hope it’s a reasonably good day.

Take care y’all.

It is an I-Pad.

Darlyne, is it an I-POD or an I-PAD–sounds like an I-Pad–I really am beginning to covet one of those myself. Sounds like a great way to usher in your eighties.

80th

Posted by Darlyne C on January 30th, 2011 10:11 am

I had a great late 80th birthday celebration in NY with daughter and family. I saw Spider man on Brodway which wasn’t great but I enjoyed anyway, and Sunday a great dinner that my granddaughter and her husband made.
They are both gormet cooks, the kind who use many pots and pans and don’t worry about the clean-up. I received many nice gifts and flowers but the best one by far was an I pod. My daughter let me use hers earlier to get on FB and other sights and also the kindle is on it so I started reading Stone Cutters which is turning out to be a page “Move overer). I won’t get my I-pod until Monday and can hardly wait.

All you ladies, if you haven’t logged onto The Breast Cancer site, as I know some of you do, try and remember to do so. The numbers are pitiful for the whole month of January

Yes, it helped, but she also has severe, frequent migraines. and tinnitus sp. which is helped by an apparatus in her “good ear”. The Dr who did the Meniere’s surgery is one of the few in the country, and happens to be in Mpls. Ironically, she is an American Sign Language interpreter. She is also a CPA, but retrained to help the deaf. Also the hours were better for her family. She works in the St Paul school system.

So glad your grandson is better, Darlyne, Jacky

Did it help the vertigo. Evan is better and back to normal. I think a virus caused his.

It is 8° this morning. I am not used to this and have to go out for a Dr. appointment. I will be happy when I am home again and in my recliner under my new electric throw, reading a book involving quilting–an easy read.

He is better but still in bed. Not nauseated any more. He ate left over pizza.

I stopped reading God of Animals when I realized that I had read it a few years ago. My daughter gave it to me when we were in the airports. She loved it. Thanks to a bad memory I read over a fourth of it before knowing for sure I had read it. I am now listening to Gilead which I had started and gave up on a while back but it is th pick for my library group. This is about a Grandfather writing a letter to his grandson telling about his and his Father’s life as a preacher in Kansas years ago.

MEN!

Never want to go to a doctor or take medication. My ex was the same I; I think I had my sons cowed when they were young. Give ‘em “the look” and they took whatever I gave ‘em….including the cure-all chicken soup. LOL

Having had occasional bouts over 50 years (none for a year now, crossing every digit!) Dramamine works for me. It is best if I have a little warning and take one before it takes hold. I keep some within reach at all times, just in case. Hope it’s just a passing anomaly for your grandson.

You are right about starting the medication right away. He had a touch of it a couple of days ago but ignored it, (he is 23) but last night had a friend drive him home and has been in bed since. He has been keeping liquids down and the cure all, chicken soup. He says he is better so there is hope. Thanks for the sudifed recommendation. I offered to go and get it for him but he said he was OK so far.

When I wa doing vertigo, dr recommended meclazine and sudafed taken at the same time. It took a couple of days to start working since the vertigo was already there but it DID help. It worked much faster if I started the meds immediately instead of waiting until it was there! Vertigo is miserable.

Hey all

Stay well Jo. My grandson is ill with severe vertigo and nausea. I am trying to cure him with no success.

Hey All!

We have had some way-warmer than usual weather at this time of year and the snow is all gone except where the sun doesn’t shine – and that is NOT meant to be the way one normally takes that phrase, I mean of course on the north and north-east side of buildings which is where I am. So, we have snow – but only piles now, none on the ground. It’s gone off my balcony which gets no sun whatsoever this time of year.

I’ve either got some marvelous allergies or a cold and it’s hard to tell. Cold meds dry up the runny nose but I sneeze and blow and mainly feel like something the cat dragged in. dr appt next week and I plan to find out what’s what here — this is getting to be a ROYAL pain.

So, stay warm folks and well fed.

Jo

home again

Posted by Darlyne C on January 18th, 2011 12:07 pm

I arrived home last night after a very complicated airline trip. There were many cancellations and delays but thanks to Susan making changes for me I got home. It was a wonderful and very full few days, sad to say goodbye to my brother but good to see everyone. It was also a reminder of where I grew up. Very white and cold. I gave up on reading Freedom and started The God of Animals which is more interesting to me. This story is narrated by a 12 year old who lives on a horse ranch where they raise show horses. She has a sister who is a natural rider so she does the show riding while the narrator does the drudge work. Much more to the story but I am just getting into it.

Good to see Darlyne

Posted by jackyjones on January 17th, 2011 8:51 pm

I didn’t know you were coming, Darlyne, and always good to see you and meet Susan again. Curtis had a very nice farewell, and that day was the only day we haven’t gotten new snow, and actually had a sunny, calm day. You, Curtis, and Dona mean so much to me.

I wonder what the spring will bring, Our village is in a bowl created by our dike. We may have to bail, well probably, pump, when all this snow melts. I pray we’ll have a slow warm up with cold nights, which allows our north running river to handle excessive water better.

Darlyne, you had a daunting sequence of airlines and weather to navigate–hope you got through it all and back home with no serious problems.

SNOW

Posted by Darlyne C on January 12th, 2011 5:54 pm

There is a lot of it out there. My driveway and sidewalks are plowed and I am ready to fly to North Dakota tomorrow I hope. After a long illness my brother passed away. I am flying to Ohare, my daughter will pick me up and we will spend the night at her house and head for the Milwaukee airport, fly to Minneapolis and then catch another plane to Grand Forks, ND. It is not easy to get to North Dakota. We will return the same way Sunday and Monday if all goes well. Wish me luck.
