Still coughing

Posted by Co Jo on November 13th, 2009 4:50 pm

I can sympathize with anyone who is still coughing from whatever this is that’s going around. My dr didn’t mention a cold at all; in fact, as I think on it, he didn’t mention anything but the C-pack. Today is the first day since I got this mess about the second week of October, maybe the 14th or thereabouts. I remember missing the opening day and day after hockey games, which were the 16th and 17th of October. I am just now beginning to feel ‘normal’ and not coughing as much. I coughed so hard my ribs hurt.

Isn’t it a joy to have children who are conscious of other peoples’ needs? I would expect your heads to be fairly bursting with pride; mine would be, for sure.

May I recommend Gail Fraser’s series about Lumby, a town located in the Rockies. Judith actually recommended them to me and I am taken with the community and the people. Every day life just a bit exaggerated. Well written, the story flow

catching up — again

What a grandson, Darlyne. A superb way to help others. You have a right to have a swelled head.

And have no fear, m’dear; you never post too much what with your dog-sitting trips and trips down to the MD/VA area (I forget where Julie lives – CRS y’know).

Can you imagine rent-raising in this economy? My g’daughter did the same as your two, Jenny. She had a great job in the LA area but some bad happenings (divorce!) so she quit her job there and came here to CO. That was last December. And she still has no job either.

SERENA sounds good, Darlyne. Thanks for the heads-up.

We had no trick-or-treaters in the apt bldg; I don’t know about the homes. I miss the little kids.

Trees here have finally lost their leaves – it is sure bare out there. Many of the older taller trees are bare also, but some still hang on.

A real silk stocking. Rare is right. And ROFL, Jerry. I doubt if one of Grable’s stockings ever made it out of dressing rooms. What a prize it would be. Straight seams! Oh what a pain that was. And remember leg makeup and the pencil for the seam. Good grief.

I remember that ‘snowing down south’ thing. Talk about embarrassing.

I agree about Agnes’ post – totally ignore them. Indeed she or he wants a comment – somebody with too much time on their hands. As for buying in Dubai, yeah, we’re about to buy something overseas. In a pig’s eye we will. Invest in the good ol’ US of A first.

Been without heat for a week; a valve isn’t working properly. Weather forecast was for colder weather so the maintenance man, Dave, came by yesterday and turned me back on. Nice to have a cozy warm house. What happens is that my thermostat is set for 69° but because of this valve not working properly, the temp will get to 75°. Much too warm, especially for sleeping. So I’ll just turn off the heat about 8 or so and let the apt cool off. The bldg is WELL insulated so I sure won’t freeze.

Otherwise, things are chugging along as per normal. I see there are some messages that didn’t get posted so I’ll get them into the main discussion after I send this. So – take care, all y’all, and stay warm and well fed.

Hugs to all of you
Jo

I think it best to ignore the posts and make no comment. She or he wants a comment.

Why all the sales pitches from Agnes?

SILK STOCKINGS

Posted by CCNL on November 10th, 2009 10:29 pm

Getting the seams straight and either a girdle or garter belt to hold them up! Took a long time to get dressed then. Another problem was slips. A slip showing below the hem of the dress was not tolerated in my house. I’m with you about the ease of dressing these days–age notwithstanding–wouldn’t go back for anything!

SILKSTOCKINGS

it was a big jobto put them on, that you get the seam straight,  i like the kneehigh much better, no problem with them  and slacks, its so much easier to dress,  only we also were much younger and it was easier then. Also heels and stockings were much sexier.

Yesterday I got into an old trunk and found a true relic–a genuine silk stocking with a seam down the back–what do you think that would bring on ebay? :) Maybe I should just frame it.

Halloween

Posted by Jerry Horgan on November 6th, 2009 3:09 pm

I think the cutest halloween costume I saw the other night was a tiny little girl, just toddling, dressed up as a pig. A Poland China, I think; white with black spots and she was not at all piggish about receiving her treat.

I think I’m a little long in the tooth Agnes, for even thinking of taking on a mortgage!

I thought the best costume that came to my door was a small bottle of catsup. He really looked the part.

Trick or Treat in St Paul

Posted by jackyjones on November 6th, 2009 12:17 am

We spent a long weekend at youngest daughter’s in St Paul, I went trick or treating with them, had a great time, its been many, many years. Husband sat in their basement with the TV on and lights off, didn’t want to hand out candy, and the door bell never rang. Daughter, and family have joined friends in another neighborhood for 10 years now. The folks there really like the tradition, and many of them were in costume too, a couple had a whole scene of tombstones, witches, ect.

Now we are helping with senior meals 3 days a week for two weeks here in Oslo, we do it once a year. Its a nice program. a chance to join others for a meal and companionship.

I finished The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, it could have been half as long, but I was curious enough to finish it.

I read the book you are reading Jerry, for a philosophy class at UND. There was a lot to it, but I didn’t understand a lot of the hidden meaning. I can’t think of the name of it now, but I remember the “shark”.

Our trees have finally dropped most of their leaves, the groud is covered, but Clive has a riding lawnmower with bags to catch the leaves and its finally quit raining. Jacky

Halloween

I still haven’t gotten back to Moby Dick. It is one of those”I plan to”. I only had 64 trick or treaters last night. It usually is over 100. It rained off and on and that is probably why. I have 80 Reeses Peanut butter cups left over and I don’t eat sweets any more. I guess my friends will benefit.
