It’s getting better folks - I have actually seen another 2′ x 8′ section of carpeting!!!!!! My daughter was over a couple of afternoons ago and she moved five boxes of books, which we went through first (or rather she did and found five or so she wanted and which naturally I gave her), over to the paperback library which is right across from me. She has been so much help to me. I can only move just so many of those heavy (but only to me, daughter and g’daughter both say) book boxes and then I’m done. I plan to move the craft boxes into my bedroom behind the door (I’ll move a lightweight one first and make sure it fits). At least maybe I can get to the kitchen easier.
On the other hand, it’s just about the only exercise I get. LOLOL
I have 3 craft boxes total to go through, two boxes of knick-knacks which may get to Suzanne’s garage for storage! and the box with my shredder in it. Suzanne says we may have a shredding party some day - be a good idea!
And I guess I’m as done as I can be until I get some shelving in the one closet. Storage here in the apartments is at a real premium. If a two-bedroom apt had been available, that would have worked out much better.
Anyhow, I’ve been across to the Event Center. It has a HUGE room used for the Wii games and also for the resident council meetings; it’s like a huge lounge. There is a bistro where morning coffee klatches are; cereal is available for a nominal fee and coffee is brewed. I’ve not been a coffee drinker in eons, but I had some hazelnut coffee w/milk after the council meeting and it was very VERY good. The leasing agent and activity person have offices in this building, also. An exercise room and meeting room and restrooms, of course, complete the building usage. It is probably some 50-60 feet or so from the apartment building itself but as Suzanne says, there is seldom lots of snow but the snow removal is done so we don’t have to fuss about that.
A monthly schedule of activities planned along with a newsletter is published and put under the door of each apartment. I’m not sure how they get distributed to the homes (rental and/or purchased) but everyone in the Mirasol community gets them. And the activities planned run the gamut from Fit Walking to blood pressure testing to foot care to tai chi to sitting yoga and van rides to any and all stores.
I needed an additional peephole at the door because the previously installed on is four inches higher and I can’t see through it even standing on my toes. I got one yesterday and the young fella who did that also hung my curtain rods (not the curtains themselves although he offered. He said he wasn’t supposed to so I should keep very quiet about that. I can do that, too.)
I can only say that I’m hoping to walk off some of my extra avoirdupois. The only thing I don’t have to go after is the morning paper. It gets delivered. Most of the apts have a small table (12″x12″ and furnished by the apt dweller) by their front door with some kind of decoration on it and the papers are usually put there. Mail is on the first floor just off the lobby. The hardcover library is there. AND thankfully there is an elevator. Grocery carts and a cart with a piece of plywood on it for larger stuff is provided for resident use.
The entry doors to the building are locked on the weekend and residents have a keycard which opens the doors. All doors are opened with those pushbutton things for opening automatic doors for the handicapped and that is convenient. Oh yes, and the doorknobs in the apartments are the lever kind and not doorknobs. Way nicers.
OK - that’s it for today. When and if I get ALL the boxes out of here, I’ll let you know and we can have a congrats! party.
