UNpacking is a pain!
So here I sit with boxes to be unpacked! I did manage to find out where the trash bins are located — and it’s just about as far away from me as it can get. I may have to hire a slave! LOL I’ve got all kinds of good stuff from the facility staff but nothing (!) on recyclables, newspapers, mail delivery times, etc. Guess I’ll have to go find out on my own. Gee whiz.
Anyhow . . . . .
My things did arrive on the 27th as promised. The unloading went well. The rest of that day and Tuesday, 4/28, daughter Suzanne worked like a Trojan getting my kitchen put together while g’daughter Jenna and her friend Carrie put boxes more or less where they belonged. I am now in a one bedroom from a two bedroom and the loss of that room is quite apparent. Where do I put my craft stuff and the rest of the books I have to sort through? What to keep, what to donate to Marisol, what to Goodwill? Marisol has a sister facility just starting so Marisol Suzanne (as compared to daughter Suzanne) will gather a bunch of books from their libraries (hardcover and paperback) to go to the new place and put my donations in this library. Sounds good to me.
Suzanne has attempted to hook up the peripheral electronic stuff (DVD player, VCR and Comcast box) to all work through the receiver (don’t ask me how it works – I haven’t a clue). For whatever reason, the remote isn’t doing its job and if I watch anything, it means getting up and working the Comcast buttons etc. Hopefully, friend husband Paul can figure it out. I’d hate to have to fly Gene (#1 son who did the original set up when I went to MD and then PA) out from MD to fix it! LOLOL But I did find the music channels (finally) and have figured out a more or less shorter way to change channels. It’s still a drag but SOME day . . . .
As I mentioned yesterday (I think), I do have a lot of boxes emptied but full of the packing paper. There are some empty boxes to be sure, but until I do craft stuff etc., no just empty boxes yet. The ones I have so far will go to Suzanne’s house for dispersal via craigslist.com. People looking for specific items go there and find things at a reasonable price. And there are always folks looking for moving boxes. She shouldn’t have them for very long. The craft boxes have little or no paper in them, ditto for the rest of the book boxes, so that will help that situation.
The cross-country drive with #2 son Mark, who flew up to help from Texas, went very well. He has something (not an MP3 – again don’t ask!) which had books being read by someone and we listened to one of them all across. Finished the book as we pulled into Loveland. I’m trying to think of the name; it was very good. Matthew McConaughy (?) was in the movie and played a small town lawyer who defended a black man who shot the two men who raped and beat his 10 yr old daughter. The book was excellent; Mark said it was better than the book – as usual.
Anyhow, he got word from his wife Margie that one of their calves has scour (which makes them very actively engaged in getting rid of body wastes). Margie has a regular job and was doing their ranch chores when she got home; the calf with scour really multiplied her chore routine. So Mark left for home last Thursday, 4/23, instead of waiting until the trailer was delivered. I have no doubt but what Margie was glad to see him come home.
The trailer was to have been delivered here on Friday 4/24 but it was delayed (naturally! why should my delivery run like clockwork?). It finally got here on 4/27.
Monday and Tuesday were endless but the one good thing was – a hockey game played last night. While I was here in November, Suzanne and Paul took me to the CO Eagles (a local team in the Central Hockey League [CHL]) and I became a fan almost immediately. The players and the coach have good PR with the town (they are based here in Loveland) and, in fact, the coach even told Suzanne to have me email him when I went back to PA!!! Anyhow, that game gave us all a welcome breather. It was the first game of the finals for the CHL and the Eagles (Central) are playing the Texas Brahmas (Southern) for the title. Another game is on Friday and I’m not sure what the rest of the schedule is.
And now that you all are more or less current with my chaotic apt, I’ll go and get some of the chaos taken care of. I hope. I really do need to unpack the wardrobes. Yuck.
‘Til next time,
Tuckered out and thirsty,
Jo
