Unpacking

Posted by Darlyne C on April 30th, 2009 7:26 pm

It is good to hear from you Jo. I can understand your frustration on the remote not working. I had to change the battery in my phone and now it works but the phone book memory thingie doesn’t work so I have no speed dial. After you have had it it is no fun to dial all those numbers. Oops, no one dials anymore. I meant click.

Remember, you have forever to unpack your stuff except for a few clothes. That probably is a necessity.

UNpacking is a pain!

Posted by PA Jo on April 30th, 2009 2:41 pm

So here I sit with boxes to be unpacked! I did manage to find out where the trash bins are located — and it’s just about as far away from me as it can get. I may have to hire a slave! LOL I’ve got all kinds of good stuff from the facility staff but nothing (!) on recyclables, newspapers, mail delivery times, etc. Guess I’ll have to go find out on my own. Gee whiz.

Anyhow . . . . .

My things did arrive on the 27th as promised. The unloading went well. The rest of that day and Tuesday, 4/28, daughter Suzanne worked like a Trojan getting my kitchen put together while g’daughter Jenna and her friend Carrie put boxes more or less where they belonged. I am now in a one bedroom from a two bedroom and the loss of that room is quite apparent. Where do I put my craft stuff and the rest of the books I have to sort through? What to keep, what to donate to Marisol, what to Goodwill? Marisol has a sister facility just starting so Marisol Suzanne (as compared to daughter Suzanne) will gather a bunch of books from their libraries (hardcover and paperback) to go to the new place and put my donations in this library. Sounds good to me.

Suzanne has attempted to hook up the peripheral electronic stuff (DVD player, VCR and Comcast box) to all work through the receiver (don’t ask me how it works - I haven’t a clue). For whatever reason, the remote isn’t doing its job and if I watch anything, it means getting up and working the Comcast buttons etc. Hopefully, friend husband Paul can figure it out. I’d hate to have to fly Gene (#1 son who did the original set up when I went to MD and then PA) out from MD to fix it! LOLOL But I did find the music channels (finally) and have figured out a more or less shorter way to change channels. It’s still a drag but SOME day . . . .

As I mentioned yesterday (I think), I do have a lot of boxes emptied but full of the packing paper. There are some empty boxes to be sure, but until I do craft stuff etc., no just empty boxes yet. The ones I have so far will go to Suzanne’s house for dispersal via craigslist.com. People looking for specific items go there and find things at a reasonable price. And there are always folks looking for moving boxes. She shouldn’t have them for very long. The craft boxes have little or no paper in them, ditto for the rest of the book boxes, so that will help that situation.

The cross-country drive with #2 son Mark, who flew up to help from Texas, went very well. He has something (not an MP3 - again don’t ask!) which had books being read by someone and we listened to one of them all across. Finished the book as we pulled into Loveland. I’m trying to think of the name; it was very good. Matthew McConaughy (?) was in the movie and played a small town lawyer who defended a black man who shot the two men who raped and beat his 10 yr old daughter. The book was excellent; Mark said it was better than the book - as usual.

Anyhow, he got word from his wife Margie that one of their calves has scour (which makes them very actively engaged in getting rid of body wastes). Margie has a regular job and was doing their ranch chores when she got home; the calf with scour really multiplied her chore routine. So Mark left for home last Thursday, 4/23, instead of waiting until the trailer was delivered. I have no doubt but what Margie was glad to see him come home.

The trailer was to have been delivered here on Friday 4/24 but it was delayed (naturally! why should my delivery run like clockwork?). It finally got here on 4/27.

Monday and Tuesday were endless but the one good thing was - a hockey game played last night. While I was here in November, Suzanne and Paul took me to the CO Eagles (a local team in the Central Hockey League [CHL]) and I became a fan almost immediately. The players and the coach have good PR with the town (they are based here in Loveland) and, in fact, the coach even told Suzanne to have me email him when I went back to PA!!! Anyhow, that game gave us all a welcome breather. It was the first game of the finals for the CHL and the Eagles (Central) are playing the Texas Brahmas (Southern) for the title. Another game is on Friday and I’m not sure what the rest of the schedule is.

And now that you all are more or less current with my chaotic apt, I’ll go and get some of the chaos taken care of. I hope. I really do need to unpack the wardrobes. Yuck.

‘Til next time,
Tuckered out and thirsty,
Jo

Congrats Jo

Well, you did it again! Congratulations on another daring feat. You’ve covered most of the country since I’ve known you. When are you going to settle down? We’re all looking forward to hearing about your circuitous trek to the mountains…so let’s hear it.

Moving

Posted by PA Jo on April 28th, 2009 8:04 pm

Unpacking is better than packing; I love seeing the empty boxes pile up.

However, I am too pooped to participate and daughter/g’daughter are even more so. So I will only say that I’m sitting in Apt 266 and there are even places where I can see the carpet. ;-)

But I am too beat to type much more. And I will give a better report later.

Promise.

Our Jo

Posted by Judith on April 24th, 2009 9:27 am

I had an email this morning from Jo saying she had arrived in Loveland. She was using her son Mark’s computer until she gets moved in and unpacked. Her furniture will arrive on Monday. She is staying at a Holiday Inn express thanks to her son-in-law’s frequent traveler miles.

Jo, hurry up and get unpacked and back to us.

Gramma

His name is Randall Munroe, His website is xkcd.com. The article was in Monday’s paper. When he gives talks at colleges the audience throw those balls at him. He will always be Randy to me.

GRAMMAS

Posted by CCNL on April 20th, 2009 9:39 pm

Grammas are a great support system for young entrepreneurs, Darlyne. What is his name? I could do a search of the NYT online and see if it comes up. That was Sunday’s paper, right? I’ll try the identification you mentioned and see if it comes up.

a proud Gramma

Posted by Darlyne C on April 20th, 2009 12:44 pm

The NYT had an article this morning about my Grandson having a book published. He has a large following on line with his web comic xkcd and makes his living selling posters and tee shirts. The comic is mostly for physics majors, geek types and Grammas. His book will be published in June and it is of his comics. It will only be sold on line. Time will tell if it sells. He says it has a better chance being sold on line as the comic section in large book stores get very little coverage. It makes life interesting.

In the meantime I am reading Lorna Landvik books that I haven’t read. There is a new one of hers on the new book shelf that I have reserved, Tis the Season. Our temp was almost 80° Saturday and today the high is 44°.The warm weather will come eventually and we will complain about the heat and humidity.

MOVE

Posted by CCNL on April 15th, 2009 11:18 am

Jo, your itinerary has reinforced my decision not to move–you’re a better woman than I. When I moved into this house over 50 years ago, the mover said he hoped I would call them for my next move. I told him I was here until they take me out feet first. It would be even more daunting now with all those years of accumulated “stuff.”

We look forward to the tales of your travel.

Your move sounds complicated Jo, but it sounds like everything is organized and under control. Have a good trip.

ROFLOLOL - now, that’s a thought! I LOVE it.

So tomorrow I drive down to MD, we get TX son at the airport and he and I come up to PA on Thursday. Trailer will be delivered also. Mark and I finish whatever packing is left, besides the computer and the TV and components. Friday Gene and Sharon will drive up to help finish. I guess Sharon is coming, I haven’t heard otherwise. Hopefully, the trlr will be picked up on the Friday also, according to Gene it will be. Then down to MD that afternoon/night. Get a bit of R&R although daughter and her friend who drove up in his covered truck (?) to get the stuff I’m giving her. And then they’ll head back out to FL. We’ll then have dinner at the Welcome to Mom restaurant when I got to MD…fitting place since I’ll also be LEAVING from MD. And then come Sunday, the big day. Mark and I take off for CO. I am SO ready for this to be done. Get the furniture in and the kitchen set up and that’ll be it for a while. I can ‘muck about’ with the books at my leisure and the craft stuff too. Put those boxes in the closet and shut the door until I’m ready. LOL

And so - I expect this is the last you’ll hear from me until I get set up in CO, which SHOULD happen on the 25th.

Stay warm/cool as the case may be, and I’ll talk to you in ten days or so.

COJo (giggle teehee and stuff like that)

Easter and spring

Posted by jackyjones on April 14th, 2009 5:37 pm

We did have a nice Easter Sunday, 3 of our 4 families were here and my sister, hubby and daughter’s family. Pam asked if she could invite her next door neighbor who was recently widowed, has no family here, she’s from Maryland, and home was robbed last week. They took her lap top and a jar of change, and looked through her meds. No damage though except the kitchen door from the garage. Its very upsetting, of course. She is a Spanish teacher at UND, my sister’s grandaughter’s are in a Spanish Immersion school and they talked, it was fun to hear them.

And our snow is almost all gone, so I spose its spring. Glad you enjoyed the flood photo’s, if you noticed mention of “Fluff”, that’s our son, he acquired the nickname in boy scout camp because of a fluffy thick crewcut, or heinie as we called it then. He is now rather bare on top, but the name stuck and he likes it, has it on a licence plate.

I’ll be waiting to hear from Jo safely in CO. Jacky

PA Jo’s Move

Posted by bookwrm on April 13th, 2009 3:03 pm

Jo, Texas weather today is sunny, about 60+, too much wind, but entirely un-Texas as far as heat goes. The trees are all very nice and green!

Enjoy your trips and visits!

So, then, will you be COJo?

Jo’s move

Posted by Darlyne C on April 13th, 2009 9:49 am

Driving to CO should be a fun trip Jo. Enjoy it. I am sure you will be happy when all is done. You sound organized and have good kids that help you.
We are lucky that way.

I am off to Radio Shack to get a battery for my phone. (I hope that is all that is wrong with it). This afternoon off to NY with daughter and sil for dinner and an opera. My granddaughter is singing in a hidden choir so she won’t be seen but I will know that she is there singing her heart out. It will be a very late night so I will be tired, but will survive—I hope.

Flying past the GGOBIT

Posted by PA Jo on April 13th, 2009 9:00 am

Such a good lot of emails and Jacky, I’m so glad you are home safely. And dry. ;)

The ladies are here packing my kitchen and dining room stuff. I showed them what goes to CO and what goes to daughter in FL. She should know that whoever got the china cupboard also got the stuff that’s in it! LOL

I’m hiding!

But I am feeling MUCH more positive about things getting done. I am amazed that it is all falling into place. My ‘catch-all’ room is in need of something although 95% of the ’stuff’ is packed or waiting for something to finish filling up the box(es).

Boy! Will this ever be finished.

I am moving to CO, leaving here hopefully on the 17th. Down to son’s in MD for a couple of night and then son Mark from TX and I will head out to CO, he driving my car. I probably won’t get to drive at all. :(

It was Mark’s wife’s 50th b’day celebration I had gone to the first part of April. I was there a week in absolutely gorgeous weather and then back to PA and freezing temps. And off to CO with some even colder temps!

I am, however, cheered by the fact that “this too will pass!”

I probably won’t be online again until after the move and somebody gets the computer set up again. So bye for now and take care, all y’all.

JO’S MOVE

Posted by CCNL on April 11th, 2009 7:13 pm

Joanne, since Jo may not be around a computer and checking in here, I’ll answer your question about her plans. She is visiting (or at least planned to) one of her sons in Texas before her move. The last I heard she expected to move to Colorado around April 19.
