There’s no doubt in my mind that there are many more typos in newspapers and books than once was the case. It used to be rare to find one. When I was working on the book last year, the final galley sent to the author contained 32 obvious errors in spelling and critical punctuation. In my opinion there is too much reliance on technology and not enough “hands-on” proofreading.
