Age 95

Wow – a good age, Jenny – and may you have a lot more. I hope I know when to quit driving…I do enjoy getting around without having to depend on someone else. It’s nice your place has rides to doctors; do they also provide rides to other stores like Walmart or K-Mart and grocery stores?

I get used to the new hearings now that I’ve had some already. I have a nice little case to put mine in but I hadn’t done that. I will from now one, trust me!

I don’t mind a LITTLE snow but more than six inches and I stick to the apt – safer that way. I’ve never driven very much in snow and/or ice so I’m cautious to a fault, probably.

Take care all and stay warm.

jo, do you get used to the new hearing aid?  i misplaced my  hearing aid a few weeksd ago and found it finally in the  pagesof the dicarded  newspapers.     that loss made me more eatchful and after taking it out of my ear,         i replaed it on a safe place.              we here have lovely weather, no sign of winter.  i like a little bit of snow and would not mind if it snowed, but then  i don`t have to drive   .  my son insisted when  i turned 95 to give up my car. i  sure miss the old car,  i was a good driver  i say so myself, but he was right  i should not drive anymore

when they would see my old face and the white hair they would blame me, if  i was the cause of the accident or not.     twice a week they are going to the doctors here in the retirement home with a driver, so  i take advantage of this offer and it is for free

i just baked some mufffins for the week for breakfast, they are good and easy to make.  tonight  i will bake some  potatopancakes  for chanukah, that starts tonight.  i wish all my jewish friends a happy  chanukah .  have fun with your family and have a nice holiday.  jenny

Book Warning!

Posted by bookwrm on December 4th, 2007 1:52 pm

If anyone here is planning on reading “The Almost Moon” by Alice Seabold, do not expect it to be comparable to “The Lovely Bones”. If this is the best she can do, she should have waited a couple more years to publish another book. I know a lot of you balk at “sexual references” and descriptions in books. (I can get past most of those) However, this book is a mish-mash of (1) severely dysfunctional family; (2) matricide; (3) sex as an antidote for poor choices; etc etc. I nearly stopped reading the book, but it was to be a library face to face book group selection for January and I persevered to the very end, thinking it might have some “redeeming social value” that would warrant finishing it. (NOT!!!)
I mentioned to the book group when we met last week my take on it, and some of the others had looked up reviews (most were not good) and we decided to forego (sp) the reading of it. If you must read it, check it out at the library, but don’t pay good money for it. $.25 at a book sale would be too much.

I went to Amazon to read about what got you so interested in the story itself and of course their review said absolutely nothing about the sexual aspect of the story except that people were ‘depraved’ and ‘mean’ which does rather hint but says nothing about HOW depraved and mean. That kind of thing can really ruin a story and now, even though I think I’d like the story itself, do I really want to speed read thru that part of it? Gee whiz anyhow; booksfree.com doesn’t have it yet since it is a hardcover book; I’ll check out library and see if they have it.

Thanks again, Jerry.

Hi!

I guess not everyone has forsaken us! LOL

Gee Darlyne, I can’t imagine anyone writing about their venture into natural foods. What on earth can you say about that?

Buying new hearing aids, even on a credit card, has put a serious dent in my shopping this year. And a plane ticket to FL didn’t help a whole lot but I’ll enjoy that trip. Not really having family near does tend to keep me out of the Christmas spirit.

No snow here yet except that I reported a week or so ago. And it didn’t last long. Tell the truth, I don’t miss it a whole lot. ;-) Our temps here have been in the high 30s in the am going all the way up to the low 40s. And it has been and is still WINDY! I’ll be going from 30/40 deg temps to mid 70+ altho I see today it’s in the low 60s with 59% humidity which is a change from what it has been. Hope it stays there!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear you located your sign in stuff Mz Worm! I have my little spiral notebook with all that good stuff in it. And I must admit that I refer to that little book more often than I like. CRS???

re cat X-ray: plastic doesn’t show up in an x-ray and I doubt there’s very much metal in the things these days. sigh!

Thanks for the heads-up on the new Follett book, Jerry. What historic significance is the book about? But I agree about the sexual stuff; references are indeed bad enough but the explicit description is a real bummer as far as I’m concerned. That belongs in romance books, not something historical. IMNSHO, that is. I am/was a big fan of Follett but not is he is now heading down THIS path.

I may send all the kids the food thing from some of those places and CRS running rampant, I can’t think of any of the names. Aargh – getting to be a senior citizen is a sever case of pigeon poop, especially when it has affected your memory. I can even see the darn store with all this stuff laid out but can’t recall the name. Sheesh.

I’m gonna go think of somthing positive – like getting my filing done. Pretty sad when you’re reduced to filing.

Have any of you read this new novel by Ken Follett? This author used to write very good books but now it seems he’s fallen into the habit of ordinary pornography. References to sexual behavior is not enough nowadays he has to use explicit description. I bought this book for it’s historic significance and I am caught up in the story, but can’t recommend it to my friends.
Huggz all,
Jerry

I couldn’t get in, because once again, I forgot my login info. I do have it written down, but couldn’t find it just when I needed it. Now I have it, and I am putting it in my address book so it will be at my fingertips next time I have to log in.

Jo, are you covered in snow up there? Been thinking about you – seeing allthe news pics of snowstorms in the East. I guess you are used to a lot of snow, but those folks out in Seattle, and Oregon area are really having a bad time of it with all the water, mudslides, road collapses, and more on the way (so they said). Here in Texas, we are having very mild weather. Past few days, mornings in the high 30′s or low 40′s, days warming up to 70′s or we had an 81 the other day, which tied a record!

I’ve been noticing the lack of participation here on the blog, but guess most folks are busy getting ready for Christmas. I personally, just haven’t had anything to add to the on-going conversation. But, I do check in every day, lurking, to make sure everyone’s okay, and posting. Sorry about your hearing aid disappearing. I think I would’ve had all 3 cats Xrayed before I went out and bought new ones! LOLOL.

Take care, stay warm.

I have been busy shopping, mostly on line, wrapping and mailing among the other activities that pop up at this time of the year.

I did get to the library yesterday and got Kingslover’s latest about her venture into the natural food thing. So far I haven’t found it too interesting but will stick with it for a while.

All right, everybody – where in the woodwork did you all crawl to, eh? There has been no messages since mine of the 30th November? Don’t tell me you thought I was actually going to commit mayhem and dastardly deeds on my three feline mischief makers just because they snitched a hearing aid!!!!!!!!!!!

Where have you all gone?
