Rain
Posted by bookwrm on July 7th, 2007 12:35 pmI think the neighbors would dislike the goat more than the tall grass. The sun shone all day yesterday, so when DH came home, he mowed and edged. Sun shining today.

Joanne – could you buy a goat? Rent it out to the neighbors.
Today, it finally isn’t raining! But hot – - wow it is muggy. And the mosquitoes are running rampant. Walk through the grass and dozens of them land on your legs and arms (I had on shorts and sleeveless top), they bite quickly, and although I was swatting at them furiously with the bag the newspaper came in, they re-land and go back at it. The grass is growing so quickly, that DH can’t keep up with it. He mowed last weekend in between thundershowers, and it is cutting height again. I think it is too soggy to mow this afternoon. Maybe if it doesn’t rain again tonight, he can do it tomorrow. He just hates a ratty looking yard!
They have been predicting at least five more days of rain, but maybe that pressure system has moved on. I certainly hope so.
Best regards to all here, from Dallas.

Rain, humidity, the 44th straight day of rain in Texas. Not as much in my part of Houston as on all sides but so much the ground can’t handle any more so it’s just standing. I agree, Jo, I keep hoping the Pops will include the 1812–my favorite of any 4th progam. I really took the easy way this year, messed up my knee last week. Rather than move were I could look out the south window and watch the high fireworks, I watched them on TV without the sound, because I could hear them from across the bayou. The rolling thunder predicted for this afternoon is starting so we’ll be getting another inch or two here.

Gray skies, RAIN, gloomy, RAIN! The summer heat and humidity hit with a vengeance Wednesday and yesterday. Fireworks were rained out all over and some places were able to do them last night. I was smarter than some; watched the Capital Fourth and the tape of the Boston Pops Fourth. That one is my favorite, bar none. I even thought John Mellancamp did a good job. The host for the shindig was an Aussie whose name I didn’t get but he was good; made a comment about patriotism being when an non-citizen immigrant works the holiday. I lol’d a bit at that one. One thing I DID miss of the Boston Pops was their rendition of the 1812 Overture. I wish a station would broadcast the whole show instead of an hour’s worth. IMNSHO, the Pops is the best celebration of the 4th.
At any rate, the sun is out today and it is supposed to be HOT HOT HOT. Barf!
It sounds like fun, we had a good time with our family this last week or more. Our youngest, almost 5, smiles at me over her little glasses, and says, “Granma, I think I’m a genious.” she also has kind of buck teeth, and is so cute, I, of course, agree with her. I know she doesn’t know what she’s saying, but is quoting her mother.
Our oldest just moved to Favettville, AK, and hopes to continue her quest for a master’s in religious studies. But first she needs a job and it sounds like she will become part of the Razorbacks.
I’m going to get A Thousand Splendid Suns, will have to wait at the library, I’m sure.
I’ve read several of Sue Grafton’s books and they are fun, I have a friend who has read all of them, they must be almost through the whole alphabet by now.
A lovely summer day here in Oslo. Hope all your summer is going well. Jacky
Georgianna, the story was written by Darlyne’s daugher. I enjoyed it, too. Applicable to many relationships.

I loved reading the story of your daughter and the dogs. I love dogs. Our neighbor has one. He is about 85 and lives along. I don’t think the dog was his idea and it may be just visiting. I can see it out of an upstairs window so I talk to it. He can’t hear me but he cocks his head as though he does. It is a Pomeranian and that is the kind of dogs we have had in years past. It is way to hot for him to be outside so much but there is shade.
Thanks for sharing the story. Georgianna
